Guided Tours of the Monteverde Cloud Forest at Selvatura

The Monteverde cloud forest of Costa Rica is the home of outstanding diversity in both flora and fauna. Birds such as the resplendent quetzal, tanagers, clorophonias, euphonias, black guans, toucanettes, hawk-eagles and violet sabrewings are just some of the many birds that frequent the air waves here. On the tree trunks and branches 100s of bromeliad, fern, and orchid species are growing. It is also possible to see both terrestrial and arboreal mammals.
The following two bird photos were taken by professional photographers from San Jose, California, Kyle & Rita Harvey (408) 506-1620, while on our guided tour.
Due to the intense specialization and camouflage of
animals in the cloud forest, visitors without a guide can overlook many of the most
beautiful and interesting creatures found here. Elusive birds and other animals can be
spotted more easily with a knowledgeable and experienced naturalist guide. Our guides can
also explain many of the incredible symbiotic relationships amongst species.

The favorite forest tours in Monteverde are at the Selva Tura, with the
best suspended bridge system and the most well maintained trails in all of Costa Rica.
The 8 bridges and 2.5 Km of trails allow you to easily see all levels of the
canopy.
The Selvatura property is 700 acres, mostly primary forest. It is adjacent to
the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve, so it is an extensive forest.
Our guided tour lasts about 2 and a 1/2 hours, usually longer, and is
conducted by an experienced naturalist guide, with a formal education in Monteverde
tropical biology.
The cost of the guided tour is US$35 Regular,
US$30 with student Identification, or US$25 for children younger than 12 years old and
includes entrance fees to the Selvatura Cloud Forest and transportation there and back
from most Monteverde area hotels.
